One to Watch: GraceFitUk
With YouTube quickly becoming a platform saturated with content, creators and influencers seem to be finding it harder than ever to grow their viewership, make money, and keep on top of the site’s algorithm.
Last year, the site began to alter the way in which the ‘subscriptions’ box was used, tailoring it to what they believed the user wanted to watch the most, rather than showing the content of everyone to whom the user had subscribed. For many creators, this meant that their videos and projects were not turning up in subscription boxes, and therefore being viewed less, which, for advertising and brand deals, meant that their money decreased too. As a result, YouTubers’ views are down, along with their morale. However, this simply isn’t true for 21-year-old Grace Beverley, most well-known by her YouTube and Instagram alias, ‘GraceFitUk’.
Grace began her YouTube journey just two years ago, posting a workout video and defining her brand as a fitness channel from the very beginning. Since then, she has gained over 500,000 subscribers and has recently hit one million followers on Instagram. She has varied her content, still producing workout videos, but now including vegan diet inspiration, girly chats and life advice, university vlogs and business Q&As. She has launched her own fast-growing business, selling home exercise guides, resistance bands, barbell pads, ankle straps, and more. She plans to expand this business once she graduates from Oxford University this summer. Grace is an international hit, and her resistance bands, in particular, have been raved about by women all across Europe.
Naturally, Grace has become an inspiration for millions of people. Her vlogs and videos are always authentic yet encouraging. In her university vlogs, she does not shy away from the feeling of self-doubt and instead documents them so that those going through similar feelings can relate to her and feel supported. She overcomes this self-doubt every time and vlogs herself revising and writing countless essays, which, once again, gives a sense of solidarity and motivation to her viewers who may have similar responsibilities to tackle. Her videos involving diet and exercise are also tailored to suit beginners and professionals, and Grace is always honest about how her weight fluctuates, how she never forces herself to work out if she doesn’t want to, and how she managed to switch to a vegan lifestyle.
Early last week, the social media star, fitness guru, young businesswoman and all-around inspiration announced on Twitter and Instagram that she had been accepted into the University of South California Business School. This came as a shock to her viewers as they have become accustomed to her vlogs in and around both London and Oxford, so will have to adapt to her move to LA. For Grace herself, the move and subsequent business school will allow her to expand and adapt her business even further than she already has, and there is no doubt that GraceFitUK will become even more of a household name in the future than it already is at present.
Grace’s products are available here and she has announced that between now and April there will be three huge announcements regarding her products and brand, one of which is set to be revealed this week. So, join the 1.5 million others, and watch this space.
