Are Peggy Porschen's Cake Parlours Worth the Hype?

We've all seen the plethora of pink photos grace our Instagram feed, gushing over the cake parlour, but is it worth the hype?

Founded in 2003 by 'award-winning cake designer, author and Creative Director Peggy Porschen and her husband Bryn Morrow', the parlours are a testament to the eponymous cake designer's flair for 'pretty and elegant designs'. Displaying curated cupcakes and flower arrangements, the shops immediately gained popularity.

The company offers two locations in Belgravia and Chelsea, and upon arrival to each, you can expect a queue of photographers and tourists, trying to get the best shot of the millennial pink doorways.

the shop is undoubtedly more than a mere photo-op

Though, the shop is undoubtedly more than a mere photo-op as the cakes and drinks on offer taste as good, if not better than they look.

The parlours offer an array of teas and coffees, from floral to classic blends, though be careful not to pick anything too sweet, as the selection of cakes on offer is sure to fulfil your sugar craving. Offering cupcakes, rocky-roads and slices of layer cakes, there is a dessert to suit everyone's needs.

From personal experience, the cupcakes have a rich, more indulgent taste while the layer cakes are offer floral and fruity flavours that are quite refreshing- if a cake can be described that way. What is perfect about the parlours is the option to sit outside. Both shops are situated on picturesque streets, that are perfect for people watching or just relaxing as you catch up with a friend, enjoying the sun.

It is understandable to be cautious when eating somewhere you've seen on Instagram, often wherever you end up is slightly disappointing or overpriced and doesn't warrant the journey there. However, Peggy Porschen's parlours are certainly worth a visit, especially if you have a sweet tooth.
